Fukashima Emergency Fortification
O-PILE® INSTALLED INTO ROCK TO PROTECT THE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
A submerged structure at the downstream side of the dam had collapsed during the emergency repair work after heavy rains. It was determined that O-Pile® 35-321 ( https://www.isheetpile.com/panels/50820008200022? ) was better to use instead of z-type or u-type sheet pile due to its expansion tendency considering the hardness of the bedrock. The cost effectiveness and short lead time of O-Pile® played an essential role in preventing further degradation.
The Challenge
Install a sheet pile wall with minimal vibration in front of the damaged nuclear power plant to fortify the plant against possible further dam breaches.
Interesting Facts
Having O-Pile® stock in standard 40' of 12 Meter lengths than can be drilled, impacted in, or vibro hammered gives you the ultimate flexibility to deal with almost any type of soil or bending moment capacity needed. O-Pile® uses readily available 24" to 36" stocks of Pipe in X70 steel. The versatility of use of O-Pile®, combined with very short lead times, makes it the perfect solution for emergencies like disaster remediation.
With O-Pile® you can always double butt join, eliminating the need to wait for an exact length on the next rolling from Luxembourg or China. Sheet Pile, LLC is able to guarantee the supply of local O-Pile® for your project.
